How to make a targeted list of prospects

Before prospecting, you will need to create a list of businesses you want to reach out to. This list should be targeted towards a specific use case - then we can better personalize your outreach!

Step 1: Select Your Search Filters

Before starting your search, use the 'Filter' dropdown and select 'Non-chain' and 'Has Email'. These filters will get rid of big national chains that you would likely not prospect over email, and make sure to only show you businesses that have email addresses. We have additional search filter options, but recommend always including “non-chain’ and ‘has email’.

Step 2: Search for Use cases

The most powerful tool for narrowing down the results is the search bar so BE SPECIFIC!

Search a keyword or term that applies to a use case you'd like to prospect for your space by entering that use case in the search bar located underneath the location name.

  • If you're looking for restaurants, don't just search for 'restaurants'. Try specific types of restaurants -ex. 'sushi', 'burgers', 'pizza'.
  • Instead of searching “medical” search for “dental” or “dermatology”.

Don't feel limited by the search terms that pop up in the suggestion bar. You can use our Resquared  Search Categories list to brainstorm different use cases and keywords to look for!

You can also click on the business itself, forcing an information box to appear on the right hand side over the map, and scroll down to "categories" to see similar category tags for similar businesses. This can help you brainstorm some use cases and keywords as well!

⚠️PRO TIP ⚠️

You can also remove business categories from a search. Got exclusives and need to filter them out? Search the term you want to exclude from search results (just as if you are searching for it) and swap the include drop down to “exclude”. The word will appear in red, and you will no longer see search results associated with that tag!

  • Ex. If you are look for a bakery, but they cannot offer coffee you can include “bakery” but exclude “coffee”.

This is also helpful if you are getting unintended results in your search.

  • For example, if you search "Pho" hoping for restaurants, you may see results such as "mobile phones" since the word “pho” is in the word “phones”. Simply add the term "Phone" as a separate search term, make sure you are on the exclude option, and this will remove any business with the term phone.

You can click on the “Reset search” button in the top right of the list.

Step 3: Saving Your List

Once you’ve refined your results, you can then create a list by selecting each business individually, or by using the preset options.

Click "Save to list" (the big yellow box in the upper right hand corner of the list screen) and then select the next 50, 100, 250, or 3000 businesses to check off and save. You can also adjust the slider bar to make your number selection.

  • For example, if you save 50, it will only save the first 50 search results. However, if you have 476 search results, select 3000 and it will be sure to save all 476 results.

Once you click "Save next # to list" a pop-up will appear, which allows you to either create a new list for the selected businesses or add them to an existing list you have created.

If creating a new list, you will need to input a name for that list and then press save. You are then immediately taken to that list.

We recommend including the following in your list name: something representing the center/location, what use case you were searching for, and any special filters that you used.

  • For example, “Glendale Center - Pizza - w/in 10 miles.” Of course, feel free to do whatever works for you and your team!
